As the largest retailer of Simon Pearce glass and pottery in the U.S., we consider ourselves experts on what makes this man and his company great. For those of you who are just now being introduced, his first glassblowing shop opened in 1971 in Kilkenny, Ireland. Twenty-eight years ago, he settled in Quechee, Vermont where highly trained glassblowers and potters continue to create beautiful, innovative pieces. Each individual craftsman spends 2-5 years learning the art of glassblowing. Once the skill has been mastered, teams of two work on one piece at a time, creating handblown glassware that truly can be called a work of art. It is an honor to provide our customers with the opportunity to bring Simon Pearce glassware and pottery into their own homes, as well as purchasing it as gifts for family and friends.

As all of our valued customers are aware, the retail merchandise of the Past Basket does not remain in the same place for very long. We are constantly reconfiguring our space, creating dynamic displays and tablescapes - all in an effort to provide our customers with inspiration on how to create the same magic in their own homes.

A twist on Easter egg coloring - Linda's old fashioned method

Estonians were green before it was fashionable! Color Easter eggs that look like colorful marble. Save your outer skins, both red and yellow. Wet the thin layers, and carefully place them all the way around the egg overlapping, so the egg is completely covered. Wrap a small square of cheesecloth to hold all in place tightly, simmer eggs until eggs are cooked. Cool, unwrap.

How to get candlewax and or red wine out of your tablecloth

For Candle Wax:
Remove the excess by gently lifting dried wax with the blade of a knife. Then put folded paper towel on both sides of the spot and iron over the spot.

For Wine: Finally to remove any remaining residue, stretch the spot over a bowl with a rubber band, and set in the sink. Bring a tea kettle of water to a boil, then pour boiling water from a height over the spot.

How to measure for a tablecloth

Measure your table and add 12” to all sides, purchase the cloth that most closely matches those measurements./ It does not have to be exactly 12” on all sides.

Save your sheets

Are you ruining your sheets in the dryer? Dry them to damp only. Then, hang them over a line or place directly on your bed. They will last longer, not shrink and the wrinkles will hang out.
